Microbial formulations: Techniques and ingredients

Introduction The purpose of this note is to describe the techniques and ingredients for a wide range of basic microbial formulations for a wide range of purposes. People with an interest in preparing microbial formulations would have an interest in the restoration of biology in soil or the application of biology in balancing conditions for […]

Biological soil health enhancement versus chemical farming: Case study in broadacre grain production

Most of the food produce in a supermarket does not have anything close to the nutrient or mineral profile it is supposed to have according to nutritional textbooks. This is because minerals are not manufactured by plants, whereas vitamins and phytonutrients are produced by plants. Therefore, the addition of minerals to the soil may be […]

Nitrogen in Agriculture: in what form?

Introduction About 95–99% of the nitrogen (N) in the soil is in an organic form that is not available for uptake by plants. Also, about 78% of the Earth’s atmosphere is nitrogen and most of it is unavailable to plants. However, nature provides the solution to nitrogen availability and uptake through MICROBES. Microbial formulations that contain […]

Microbial formulations: Techniques and ingredients

The purpose of this note is to describe the techniques and ingredients for a wide range of basic microbial formulations for a wide range of purposes.

People with an interest in preparing microbial formulations would have an interest in the restoration of biology in soil or the application of biology in balancing conditions for plants, water, air, animals and humans. This information may apply to people with an interest in biological farming (including organic, bio-dynamic and permaculture), organic waste management, animal husbandry, land care or land restoration (eg. soil contamination), forestry, odour control and bio-conversion (digestion of organic wastes).

Nitrogen in Agriculture: in what form?

About 95–99% of the nitrogen (N) in the soil is in an organic form that is not available for uptake by plants. Also, about 78% of the Earth’s atmosphere is nitrogen and most of it is unavailable to plants. However, nature provides the solution to nitrogen availability and uptake through MICROBES. Microbial formulations that contain these nitrogen fixing microbes unlock bound soil nitrogen and absorb nitrogen from the air for optimum or regulated plant growth and development.

Compost dynamics

Compost is a mix of organic materials (eg. manures, leaves, food waste, etc.) and inorganic materials (eg. rock dust) that are assembled into a pile or bin for decay or digestion. Compost and composting are human designed systems and processes for creating a soil-like material for soil conditioning or amendment.
